Founded in 1952 by Joseph "Stew" Kalama and Max Kamaiopili, Kai Oni Canoe & Athletic Club is a historic 501(c)(3) non-profit organization rooted in the Windward Oahu community. Operating out of Kailua Beach, the organization is dedicated to preserving and perpetuating Hawaiian culture through traditional ocean watersports, education, and competitive amateur sports. As a formal member of the Oahu Hawaiian Canoe Racing Association (OHCRA) and the Hawaiian Canoe Racing Association (HCRA), the club runs structured seasonal paddling programs that emphasize athletic conditioning, ocean safety, and historical knowledge.
